I took part in a wonderful concert tonight. The Choral Arts Society of Washington performed the Mozart Requiem to a sold out crowd of near 2,000, and the combination of rousing music, eager musicians and an enthusiastic crowd made for a memorable performance. It’s hard to explain how happy I am when I’m on stage in a group, singing my little heart out. It’s the culmination of months of preparing and thinking about the text and wondering how to sing it just right. And then… you’re there, and the show’s a hit, and the next day BOOM, it’s gone.
Handel’s Alexander’s Feast — once. Mozart Requiem — once. It makes me long for those times when we give the audience three opportunities to hear a piece, and us three times to sing it.
Until next time…
